About Impostor
Impostor is a spaceship deduction game: one player is secretly working against everyone else. The crew tries to finish its chores and find the traitor, while the traitor tries to stay hidden long enough to win.
If you have played other spaceship deduction games, you will feel at home immediately, and if you have not, the rules take about a minute to learn.
This impostor game is best for players who enjoy reading other people as much as playing the game itself. It is fun alone against online players, and even better when a group of friends joins the same match.

How to play Impostor
At the start of each round you are either a crewmate or the impostor. Crewmates walk around the ship completing small tasks such as fixing wires or emptying the trash. Finish them all, or vote out the impostor, and the crew wins. The impostor fakes tasks, sabotages systems and takes crewmates out one by one without being seen. When a body is found, everybody meets to discuss and vote. The player with the most votes is ejected.
Controls
- W A S D / arrow keys: move
- E / Space: use, interact or report
- Q: eliminate (impostor only)
- Mouse: vote and complete mini-tasks
Rounds, meetings and roles
A match is made of a series of phases. During free play, crewmates move around the ship doing tasks while the impostor looks for an opening. When someone reports a body or calls an emergency meeting, play stops and everyone discusses what they saw before voting. The player with the most votes is ejected, and the round continues with fewer people. Each meeting changes the situation: a good alibi can clear you, while a careless move earlier in the round can follow you through every vote. Because roles are assigned at random, you will play both sides over a few matches and learn the game from each perspective.
Playing each role well
As a crewmate, stay with others when possible and remember who was where: alibis decide votes. As the impostor, the best trick is to look busy. Stand at task stations, walk with groups and only strike when nobody is looking. Sabotage is your strongest tool, because it pulls crewmates to one place and leaves others alone.
Tips and strategies for Impostor
- Crewmates: complete tasks quickly but keep an eye on the people around you.
- Report a body as soon as you see one; the longer you wait, the less evidence remains.
- Impostor: do not vote too early during meetings, it attracts suspicion.
- Use sabotage to split the crew before striking.
- Remember who was seen near each room.
- If you are a crewmate with no information, it is often safer to skip a vote than to eject an innocent player.
- As the impostor, avoid being the last person seen with a crewmate before a body is found.
Common beginner mistakes
- Wandering alone into empty corners of the ship as a crewmate.
- Accusing someone without saying where they were and why it is suspicious.
- As the impostor, acting during a moment when several players can see you.
- Ignoring the task bar, which shows how close the crew is to winning.
